Kanye West: Philosopher or TED Talks Speaker?

If you didn't watch the VMAs last night you basically missed out on the 10 minute speech that Kanye West gave when Taylor Swift presented him with the Vanguard Award. He first apologized (kinda) to Taylor for their encounter a couple of years back. I thought that he was going to apologize and then simply say thank you and leave, but I was very wrong. I sat on the couch wondering how Kanye magically turned the VMAs into a TED Talks conference.
